The people of Baalbek had abandoned the worship of Allah, turning instead to Baal, a deity fashioned from stone and metal. Ilyas replied calmly, "I speak by the authority of Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Your idols are but stones, powerless and unworthy of worship."

Their faces flushed with anger. "Leave this city, or face severe consequences," they threatened.

Ilyas stood firm. "I cannot abandon my duty. I will continue to convey the message entrusted to me."

Chapter 5: A Miracle on Mount Carmel

To pierce the veil of disbelief shrouding his people, Ilyas proposed a challenge to the priests of Baal. He approached the king—a figure swayed heavily by the priests—and suggested a public demonstration to reveal the true deity.

"Gather the people and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel," Ilyas urged. "We will each prepare a bull for sacrifice. You will call upon Baal, and I will call upon Allah. The god who answers by sending fire to consume the offering is the true God."

Ilyas watched silently. As the day wore on, he taunted them gently, "Shout louder! Perhaps Baal is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is asleep and must be awakened."

An earthquake shook the ground, but Allah was not in the earthquake. A fire blazed, but Allah was not in the fire. Then came a gentle whisper, and in that tranquility, Allah spoke to Ilyas, reassuring him and renewing his purpose.

Chapter 9: The Successor
